A family dentist means you stop juggling two offices. The kids get their checkups, you get yours, and one team keeps the whole family’s history in one chart. Dr. Leslie Barrilleaux has practiced for more than 25 years, and our team gets to know your family over time. This page covers what family care looks like here: first visits, kids and adults on the same day when we can, and clear answers if it has been a while since anyone in the house saw a dentist.
Dr. Leslie Barrilleaux, DMD, graduated with honors from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry and has cared for patients for more than 25 years. She is the only AACD-accredited cosmetic dentist in Alabama, a credential fewer than 600 dentists nationwide hold. For a family, that accreditation matters less for cosmetics and more for what it signals: careful diagnosis and work that lasts, whether it is a child’s first filling or a grandparent’s crown.
You see the same dentist visit to visit, so small changes get caught early and nobody re-explains their history every time. We keep an in-house dental lab, so many repairs are made on site.

Two things shape the day-to-day for Madison families:
We also keep an in-house lab, which means fewer return trips for crowns and repairs. None of this replaces brushing and flossing at home, but it does make routine family visits shorter and less stressful, which is often the difference between a kid who dreads the dentist and one who does not.
Family dentistry is mostly the everyday care that keeps teeth healthy: exams, cleanings, fillings, and clear guidance. Here is how it usually goes for each part of the family.
Your first visit is an exam and a conversation. We take digital X-rays, check each tooth and the gums, screen for decay and oral cancer, and talk through anything you have noticed. If there is time and you are due, we often clean the same day. New patients should plan for about an hour and bring an insurance card and a list of medications.
Yes. We see kids for their early checkups, cleanings, fluoride, and sealants, and we keep the first few visits short and friendly so the chair does not become something to fear. The goal early on is comfort and prevention, catching a small cavity before it becomes a bigger repair. If a child needs work beyond what we offer in-house, we will tell you plainly and help you find the right specialist.
Adults get the same six-month exam and cleaning, plus tooth-colored fillings, crowns, and treatment for gum problems when they come up. Many crowns are milled in our in-office lab, so a cracked tooth can often be scanned and capped in one visit instead of two. We also treat medically complex patients and adjust the plan around your health and medications.
If it has been more than six months since anyone in the house had a cleaning, or a kid has tooth pain, or you have been putting off a checkup, it is time to come in. A family dentist is right for most households because it keeps everyone’s care in one place and one record. Waiting rarely makes dental problems cheaper: a small cavity handled now is a filling, while the same cavity ignored can become a root canal and a crown.
Costs depend on the treatment and your coverage, so we give a written estimate before any work begins. We offer financing through CareCredit and Cherry. Ask the front desk to run your benefits before your visit so there are no surprises at checkout.

Yes, and we welcome Madison families. Your first visit is an exam with digital X-rays, and often a cleaning if time allows. Plan for about an hour and bring an insurance card and a medication list. We will request records from your previous dentist if you tell us where you were seen.
Yes. We treat toddlers through grandparents at one office, so a family does not need two dentists. Siblings and parents can often be scheduled back to back on the same day. For young children we keep early visits short and friendly to build comfort before any real work is needed.
No. If it has been years since your last visit, you are exactly who we are here for. We start with a careful look and a plan you can take in stages if you need to. Plenty of our patients come in embarrassed and leave relieved it was easier than they feared.
Yes. We explain each step before it happens and go at your pace, which helps most nervous patients more than anything. We use The Wand, a computer-guided anesthesia system that numbs slowly and eases the usual pinch for kids and adults. If you have strong dental anxiety, tell the front desk when you book so we can plan for it, and ask the front desk what comfort options we can offer when you call.
Coverage varies by plan and treatment, so we recommend calling ahead so the front desk can verify your family’s benefits before the visit. We also provide a written estimate before any work begins, and we offer CareCredit and Cherry pay-over-time financing if you need to spread out a larger treatment.
A family dentist is right for most households because it puts everyone’s care and records in one place. Instead of tracking two offices, you book the kids and the adults with one team that knows your family’s history. It is especially helpful when schedules are tight, since you can often combine appointments. Book a first checkup and see how it fits.
